New Well Brings Hope

Friday, April 03, 2009 - rflory

Meet Mama Laisa.  The big smile on her face doesn’t tell you anything about her recent suffering. That’s because she’s been given a chance to hope again.  Until recently, she and all the women in her rural Kenyan village of Olosirua had to walk 8 hours just to fetch dirty water that was shared with livestock and elephants. Though the water was filthy and causing illness in her community, it was a precious commodity because it was the only water source around for miles.

Through Africa Hope’s partnership with Kenyan government and other organizations, Olosirua and surrounding communities now have a pump that provides clean water.  This is the first time that many of these people have ever had clean water to drink and Africa Hope gives God all the glory.  This is the love of Christ extended to people who need it so badly.

“Now we think we are very rich people because we don’t have to share the water hole with the elephants and cows.  Many of our health problems are going away. So for us, we just thank God and also the missionaries that have helped us because now we have clean water and we just want to say thank you. Thank you very much.” – Mama Laisa

Drought still plagues this land, though, and Mama Laisa is praying for rain every day, but this time it’s different.  This time she has clean water to cook maize meal and flour for her family.  This time her children won’t go to bed hungry.  This time, there’s a little more hope for tomorrow.
